Your GPS has died, it is raining, and dark is coming. How do you figure out which way to travel. Is there a way to determine direction in the woods when there is no site of the sun, and you are in heavy cover.

Who carries a GPS in the woods? Dang, mark your trail. Rain? water flows down hill. Find a high point. Moss grows on the north side of trees and rocks.

You marked your trail with a GPS.. it died. The woods are in lets say Alaska. NO MOSS on the north side of anything. High hill is surrounded by higher hills. How do you tell which way is north.

Just look on stars and find a Ursus Major.
